BPM

Summary

Beam Propagation Method

Keywords: Beam Propagation Method , BEP , BPM , FDTD

The BPM is a numerical method to analyse optical circuits. Basically it uses a start field, which is then propagated using discretized Maxwell equations.

Due to the discretization of the Maxwell equations and the choosen limitations for the light can only propagate forward; hence back reflection is not supported, which is often not a problem for planar waveguide technologies due to the low contrasts.
The OptoDesigner - BPM simulation engine is one of the simulation engines of MaskEngineer with ZONE and FAST technology, which allows you to put one or more regions of your mask design into a (optical) simulation" >Zone and FAST technology.
