Like electronics ICs, development of PICs have benefitted from focus on miniaturization and integration. PICs technology, though still under dynamic evolution, has sufficiently matured now to attract larger focus on design innovations through fabless approach. This has led to emergence of many PIC foundry services. This is complemented by the development of commercial software for PIC simulation, design and layout, and convergence towards a unified design flow.
This course provides an overview of fabless manufacturing of Photonics Integrated Circuits (PICs) and introduces design flow for PICs through hands-on training on photonic design automation tools.
The course is divided into two parts : seminars and hands-on training.
Day 1 will be dedicated to seminars which will consist introductory tutorial session on PICs and its access via multi-project wafer (MPW) runs, presentations from various PIC foundries.
Day 2 and 3 will be mainly for hands-on training sessions covering different elements of automated designing from modelling to mask-layout. The training also provides participants an excellent opportunity for networking with technology providers and design experts.
