MaskEngineer![]() Describing these relations in a mathematical way allows to reduce design time considerably by being able to re-use design much easier. During prototype stages variations in the design can be made trivially. Parametric layout has demonstrated its use in the micro-optics, where the concept was introduced around 1994, but is much more broadly applicable. The essential idea is to split up the layout of a component from its function and to describe the layout as a function of component properties. A simple example is an office, you can describe it as "it is 4.2m * 4m, with a door in the middle" or you can say "it's big enough for 2", which could lead to a formula "4.2m * (amount of employees * 2m)". MaskEngineer provides an extensive programming language, focussing on the layout of micro components.
